Birmingham Children's Hospital Children's Liver Fund Cheque Presentation by Lichfield Ladies Circle 106

On Wednesday 21st February 2007 representatives from Lichfield Ladies Circle 106 presented a cheque for £6,150 to the Children’s Liver Fund. This money was raised by holding a fantastic Grand Charity Ball and Auction in November 2006 at Drayton Manor.

The group (pictured left) was approached by Jaswant Sira, the specialist liver nurse at the Birmingham Children’s Hospital, to raise funds for research projects into children’s liver diseases. The Liver Unit at the Birmingham Children’s Hospital is one of three national units in the UK. It is renowned for its success in treating children with Hepatitis B and C, as well as having a great success rate with children’s liver transplants. Many of their patients are from the local area.

We are delighted they chose the Children’s Liver Fund for this donation and we will use the money to support early research into liver disease.

Life Saving Transplants

Patients who owe their lives to transplant doctors at Birmingham’s University Hospital and The Birmingham Children’s Hospital celebrated at a special party.

Medics and transplant recipients gathered with families for a day of music and sport at Edgbaston Cricket Ground to toast the 3,000th operation carried out at the city’s Liver Units.

Charlie Tobey, now aged seven, was just 14 days old when he received his transplant after being given just a week to live cuts the cake!

Help us to help support families of children with liver disease and research into these conditions
